Global emissions increased by only 14 ppm in the period 1940 to 1970, (311 ppm to 325 ppm) which resulted in a zero increase in world temperatures. This occurred despite a spectacular increase in industrial activity due to the manufacture of armaments, atomic bombs, the burgeoning motor car industry and household goods in a post war boom etc., during this period. Roger Revelle the co-author of the Cosmos_article  and the tutor of Al Gore advised in 1991 that: “The scientific Base for greenhouse warming was too uncertain to justify drastic action (Net Zero) at this time and advised we should look before we leap”.
