ONLY 46% ATTRIBUTE HUMAN ACTIVITY TO EARTH CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate You Expect Weather Is What You Get!.. Mark Twain. It means nothing to declare that 91 % of Australians support climate change because we are no longer talking about global warming but more about the changing of the weather attributable to our emissions of a trace gas called carbon dioxide. While there is strong support for action to address the high concern about climate change in Australia less than 50% believe it is a climate emergency. A 2024 poll found 91% believe in climate change, with only 46% attributing it to human activities, while other surveys show a majority support for ambitious CO2 emission reduction targets and/or incorporating expensive renewable energy.

Notable comment from a reader: “In sum, a strategy must recognise what is possible, in climate measuring and modelling, and we should recognise that we are dealing with a coupled non-linear chaotic system, and therefore long-term measuring or predictions of future climate states is not possible. The most we can expect to achieve is the prediction of the probability distribution of the system’s future possible states by the generation of ensembles of model solutions” “This reduces climate change to the discernment of significant variables such as Seasonal, Latitude, Elevation and Barometric Pressure for example” Like being able to take millions of “snap shots”
The good new is that we can now measure the temperature of the Earth and the Planets in our Solar System

NASA uses new methods to determine the temperature of Earth and the planets in our solar system. This method primarily relies on measuring the infrared radiation emitted by a planet, which is directly related to its temperature. The average surface temperature of Earth is indeed around 15°C (59°F).
Here’s a more detailed explanation:
- Infrared Radiation Measurement:
Planets emit infrared radiation (heat) based on their temperature. NASA instruments, like the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) on the James Webb Space Telescope, can detect this radiation and measure its intensity at different wavelengths.
- Bolometersand Semiconductors:
NASA employs various instruments for this purpose, including bolometers and semiconductor-based detectors, to measure the infrared radiation.
Earth’s natural greenhouse effect, caused by atmospheric gases, plays a significant role in maintaining its relatively warm average temperature of 15°C.
- Comparison with Other Planets:
The temperature measurement methods used for Earth are the same as those used for other planets in our solar system. For example, the average surface temperature of Venus, which has a dense atmosphere, is much higher than Earth’s due to a stronger greenhouse effect.

They had to ditch global warming because precise temperature measuring in the Southern Hemisphere was non existent before the Sixties and even in the 1960’s the data was limited to thermometers in ship’s engine intakes. It was not until the Seventies when satellites were employed did we have any reliable data.
The average global temperature for the reference period, 1951 to 1980 was originally posted at 59 F (15 C) but was later dropped to 14 C) (57 F) the same temperature posted for 1961-1990 period. They had to because the current world temperature is 59.36 F (15.20 C) and had they not reduced the former baseline, from 59 F (15 C) to 57 F (14 C), there would have been no global warming.
AI does not hide the fact that the global average surface temperature between 1951 and 1990 was approximately 14°C (57.2°F), though a commonly cited base period for this range, 1951-1980, had an average temperature of 14°C (57°F). This figure represents the average for the entire period and is a foundational temperature for climate change comparisons However, it did not say what happened to the 15 C degree baseline temperature between 1951-1980 that NASA, British Met Office and CRU East Anglia had posted
Despite a community belief that global warming is creating a climate of extremes with more very hot days in Australia than ever before, analysis of the Bureau of Meteorology’s 112 ACORN weather stations shows nothing much has changed since 1910…sorry about that!!
