CONVERTING PLASTICS BACK TO OIL
Plastic bags start out as fossil fuels and end up as deadly waste in landfills and the ocean. Meanwhile the increase in emissions supposed to have caused a one degree Celsius increase in world temperatures but there is no proven correlation between the two, particularly in the period between 1945-1979 before satellites were employed in 1979, when emissions surged without any significant warming. According to NASA, CRU East Anglia and British Met Office, global temperatures had reached a peak in the period between 1988 to 1995 and had cooled slightly since then. WMO who first published data in 1993, were reporting world temperatures about 1.5 degrees cooler than British and American authorities who were later to lower their temperatures to match those of WMO in 1998.

Plastic Out of Control
The fossil fuel industry plans to increase plastic production by 40% over the next decade. These oil giants are rapidly building petrochemical plants across the United States to turn fracked gas into plastic. This means more plastic in our oceans, more greenhouse gas emissions and more toxic air pollution, which exacerbates the climate crisis that often disproportionately affects communities of color.
Plastic Bag Facts
- Plastic bags were first introduced 25 years ago.
- Worldwide, more than 500 billion plastic bags are used each year (nearly 1 million bags per minute).
- Plastic bags cause over 100,000 sea turtle and other marine animal deaths every year when animals mistake them for food.
- It is believed that 90% of all rubbish floating in the ocean is made up of plastic.
- Scientists estimate that every square mile of ocean contains about 46,000 pieces of floating plastic.
- A vast area of floating rubbish, “The Plastic Soup,”was recently discovered in the northern Pacific.
- 80% of the plastic bags floating in the ocean originated from open dumps and not from ships.
- The amount of petroleum used to make a plastic bag would drive a car about 115 metres.
- It would take only 14 plastic bags to drive one mile!
- Some 66 million plastic bags are used annually in Fiji (that’s 83 bags per person).
- Australians consume about 6.9 billion plastic bags annually, or about 326 per person; an estimated 9.6 million bags end up as litter each year.
- The U.S. uses 100 billion plastic shopping bags annually.
- An estimated 12 million barrels of oil is required to make that many plastic bags.
- 80% of grocery bags in the US are now plastic.
- Only 1 in 200 plastic bags in the UK are recycled
- In 2006, the Government of Samoa banned the importation of non-biodegradable plastic bag

I could not find any official global temperature data published before 1988 when Phil Jones of CRU East Anglia recorded a global temperature of 59.612 degrees Fahrenheit which was 0.612 degrees Fahrenheit above the average global temperature for the period 1951-1979 at 59 degrees Fahrenheit (15 degrees Celsius)
However, Dr.Phil Jones, a climatologist at East Anglia, said global temperatures rose on average about one degree Fahrenheit since the beginning of the century. He said the six warmest years on record were, in order, 1988, 1987, 1983, 1981, 1980 and 1986. The British readings showed that the average global temperature in 1988 was 0.612 degrees Fahrenheit higher than the long-term average for the period 1950 through 1979, which is a base for comparing global temperatures. The average worldwide temperature for that 30-year period is roughly 59 degrees Fahrenheit, the British researchers said.
If this data is correct, that annual global temperatures were around 15 degrees plus, it is reasonable to suggest there has been considerable cooling since the 1980’s.
Do we really expect that the earth’s temperature should NOT vary from year to year. ..our measuring devices were not that sophisticated in the early days to judge one way or another. They are panicking about one degree of warming over 100 years or more but make no allowance for natural variability.
The United Nations has approved a landmark agreement to create the world’s first global plastic pollution treaty, describing it as the most significant environmental deal since the 2015 Paris climate accord. Government officials cheered and punched the air after the adoption of a resolution to create a legally binding plastic pollution treaty, which is due to be finalised by 2024.
The UN have known for decades that the greatest threat to the world is plastic pollution not carbon dioxide. Just more rubbish coming out of the mouths of these UN bludgers.
